In Love With You

I’ll tell you why I love you so.

YOU GREW UP WITH ME. You met me when I was a kid and you never let go of me since then. You saw me when I was still the innocent young girl in nursery and kindergarten, the playful elementary pupil, and the reserved high school student. And even though I’m not with you anymore, you never forget to remind me of that little girl, of that simple, unassuming little girl.

YOU KNOW ME INSIDE OUT. Everything about me. My attitude, my values, my perks, even my pet peeves! You’ve seen me squeal with delight on dirty ice cream, frown at obnoxious passersby, go through water tunnels, skip on cement cracks, raise an eyebrow on guys, smile at friendly-looking neighbors, make bubbles out of soap and gumamela, use Kendi Mint and Viva candy wrappers as play money, say thank yous and sorrys, and so much more. You knew from the start I’d grow up like this. Somehow, you’ve got something to do with it.

YOU TAUGHT ME A LOT. There was never a day that passed by without me learning anything from you. Without saying a word, you already told me lots. Among other things, you taught me to be street smart and disciplined. Look what you’ve done to me. I hope you’re proud of me.

YOU SHARED EVERYTHING WITH ME. You shared with me the breeze so that I can sing with you especially when no one wants to sing with me. You shared with me the rain so I can cry without anyone noticing. You shared with me the sky so I can look up and wish on the heavens. You shared with me the fields so I can turn to something when everything else was bleak and dull. You shared with me the land so I can walk and stroll through my life. You shared with me the sea and sand so I can escape life for a moment.

YOU ARE MY MEMORY. You’re always there to remind me. Whenever I need to remember, I think of you and all of days gone by come flashing back. An evidence of this is this. I’m actually writing about you and then I also begin writing about me and my past.

YOU KNOW THE LOVEs OF MY LIFE. In your heart lies my loved ones who have bid me ‘See You Later.’ In your plains live my loved ones whom I always want to see and be with. Actually, you also make that possible.

YOU’RE MY COMFORT when the hustling and bustling of urban life bring me down. You relax me. Your soothing words unburden my load. Your unending tears ease my pain. I always find solace in your presence.

You SAW ME THROUGH EVERYTHING. And even though I left you, you’re still there welcoming me whenever I want to return. You still let me dance under your sky.

Until now, you still love me. And I love you too.

You know I don’t fall in love easily. But when I do, you’ll know it’s for someone something really worth it.

La Union, I’ll keep coming back to you.
